Kolkata Police Bus to Travel Through City Schools to Spread Awareness About New-Age Cybercrimes
Dubbed Cy-buzz, the bus will come equipped with multiple audio-visual features that will deal with what constitutes cybercrime, its growing menace, and its evolving forms and challenges

In an effort to raise awareness about cybercrime, the Kolkata police are all set to unveil a modified police bus that will travel through city schools and eventually all of the busy crossings, according to the Times Of India. Dubbed Cy-buzz, a name the cops believe will appeal to the younger generation, the bus will come equipped with multiple audio-visual features that will deal with what constitutes cybercrime, its growing menace, and its evolving forms and challenges.

The media outlet further reported that a senior cyber cell officer said, “The bus, originally used to ferry cops, has been remodelled. On the outside, there are various rhymes and posters that highlight the basics of cybercrime and ways not to fall prey to fraudsters.”

He further went on to elaborate on the exterior look of the bus. He said that Cy-buzz also has pamphlets. Interestingly, it has several animated cartoons and comics that can easily attract youth. He also stated that there will be three large screens for audio-visual streaming, and multiple headphones have been provided so that the listener can personalise his or her experience with audio-visual (AV). Moreover, the cops have incorporated various tips on cyber hygiene in these AVs in a simple story-telling format.

In addition, students will be given booklets, and there will be tabs in the bus to conduct quiz programmes to test the basic cyber knowledge of students.

DC (Cyber) Atul Vishwanathan said, “In other words, we plan a complete audio-visual infotainment so that we can maximize the recall value.”

The project is part of a bigger plan to reach out to as many city schools as possible beginning with the upcoming academic year. The police officials have planned to approach the schools in two ways. First, is a direct approach in which cops will go directly to the students, instructors, and parents, outlining the difficulties posed by modern-age cybercrimes. Under this project, the police officials will be visiting schools individually and explaining to them the major cyber threats.

Secondly, the Kolkata Police Department is bringing its ambitious Cyber Sathi Project, which it feels would be an important instrument in protecting the city’s teens and young adults online. According to sources, the KP cyber department will train one individual – either a teacher or a staff member.

An officer from the detective department who will host the training further stated that individuals who get trained will then act as the nodal officer and will train all other important stakeholders of the institution.
