Thane School Prevents 350 Students from Taking Exams Over Unpaid Fees
Parents highlighted various irregularities, including claims that the Little Flower School in Thane imposes fines on students for speaking in Marathi

Around 350 students at Little Flower School in Thane, Maharashtra, are reportedly being kept from sitting exams since they have unpaid fees, which has sparked an uproar. Parents have expressed their complaints, alleging that the school administration is preventing children from taking exams and has declined to have a conversation about the issue. Parents who were upset organised a protest outside the school as a response, reported Times Now.

Despite the demonstrations, the school administration has not issued a formal statement regarding the allegations. Some teachers are said to have gone on record with the media refuting the allegations made by the parents. The uncertainty surrounding the subject has been heightened by the school’s failure to provide a definitive solution.

A Times Now report suggests that during a gathering at the school, parents highlighted various irregularities, including claims that the institution imposes several fines on students which includes fines of Rs 50 for both speaking in Marathi or wearing a Bindi or Tilak on their forehead. These alleged practices have added to the dissatisfaction expressed by parents.

In order to control the agitated crowd, local police were called to the location as the situation worsened. Purvesh Sarnaik, President of Yuva Sena, Shiv Sena Shinde faction, intervened by warning the school trustees about the perceived misbehavior. Sarnaik assured parents that he would escalate the matter to Maharashtra Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar, signaling potential official intervention.

In the meantime, there have been several discussions about the outrageous tuition fees that are increasing by lakhs for some time. As if these charges couldn’t get any stranger, a school has come under heat for charging parents for their kindergartener’s “orientation fee” back in December 2023. A picture of the Junior KG batch of 2024–2025 fee breakdown appeared online and included a section titled “parent orientation fee,” which amused people all over the internet. The widely shared image outlined the breakdown of fees for the nursery and Junior KG batches, including admission fees, caution money, annual charges, development fees, and others.
