The body of a 19-year-old student was found stuffed in a suitcase with a tape over his mouth on Friday in Kolkata, police said. The body was found under a cot in the rented accommodation at Mahishabathan in the New Town area of the city. The student had rented the property for his NEET preparation.

The deceased, identified as Sajid Hossain, was a NEET aspirant and hails from the Baisnabnagar area of Malda district. Hossain had been missing since October 4 and his mobile number was found to be unreachable.

Ransom Call

After he went missing, Hossain’s parents received a phone call demanding a ransom of Rs 30 lakh. His father filed a complaint at the New Town police station and the police launched an investigation.

The suitcase with Hossain’s body inside it was found after a tip-off. Police detained four persons, including two women, in connection with the 19-year-old’s death.

“Prima facie it appears Sajid was smothered to death with a pillow after being offered drinks. We are trying to stitch the missing links. We are ascertaining if he was already murdered before the ransom call was made, or afterwards,” an official told PTI.
