Volkswagen will recall over 5,000 vehicles for its defective sunroofs in China.

Volkswagen will recall over 5,000 vehicles for its defective sunroofs, China's quality watchdog said.

The recall of 5,462 vehicles to begin on July 20, affects 623 imported Phaeton sedans manufactured between April 26, 2007, and June 17, 2008, and 4,839 imported Audi A8L vehicles produced between May 3, 2007 and June 18, 2008, Xinhua news agency cited China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine statement as saying.

Parts of the sunroofs do not adhere to frames tightly, and may fall off when driving. Volkswagen will check all the affected vehicles and replace defective parts free of charge. The recall comes when the German automaker has been struggling with the Dieselgate scandal wherein they fitted cars with emission regulation cheat devices.
