A major landslide near the Kashedi tunnel close to Khed, Maharashtra, severely impacted train services on the Konkan Railway line, leading to extensive cancellations and diversions. The incident, which occurred more than 15 hours ago, has suspended rail traffic as efforts to clear the debris are ongoing. The removal operations continued throughout the night, but the process was challenging due to the large rocks and soil obstructing the tracks. Officials have cited safety concerns, emphasising the need for thorough clearance to prevent further incidents.
Recent overnight rainfall in Ratnagiri district has compounded the situation, exacerbating difficulties in restoring normal train operations. Consequently, several trains have been held at stations like Khed, Dewankhavati, Kalambani, and Chiplun.
The disruption has prompted Konkan Railway authorities to urge passengers to consult the updated schedule and plan their travel accordingly. Track conditions remain precarious in some areas due to waterlogging and ongoing maintenance efforts.
