Ravi Varma is one of the sorted action directors who has worked in around 200 films, predominantly in Kannada and Telugu films and also in big-budget Hindi and Tamil films. The daredevil action scenes he has choreographed for films so far have won him significant recognition.
Ravi Varma began his journey with the Kannada film industry in 1995 as a fight assistant. He got a big break in the industry with the 2004 film Dharma, featuring Action star Darshan. His biggest Kannada film so far is Darshan starrer Sangoli Rayanna, an epic period film.
The action director got a break in Hindi cinema with Prabhu Deva’s directorial R… Rajkumar starring Shahid Kapoor and Sonu Sood. He continued and has also worked with Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn and Salman Khan for the films Raees, Action Jackson and Jai Ho respectively.
Ravi Varma still has a special space for Kannada actor Darshan. The action director is grateful for the help from the actor during his early days. The stunt master has often in interviews credited his success to Darshan. Ravi Varma has even named his son after the actor. This gesture by the director towards the actor was to show his gratitude for what he had done for him.
Even, on June 21, 2011, Varma was saved by the actor from being beaten up by an irate crowd on the Bengaluru-Mysore highway, reported Bangalore Mirror. The portal informed that both of them were returning in two different cars after completing the shoot of the film, Chingari when Ravi’s car hit a two-wheeler near Mandya.
A mob was gathered and things escalated when Varma allegedly thrashed one of the bike riders. After the crowd roared in anger, he left the spot immediately and informed about the incident to Darshan who immediately reached the spot and became a mediator and managed the crowd.
Ravi Varma made his directorial debut with the Kannada film, Rustum.
