A Muslim couple who came to watch Rishab Shetty-starrer Kantara at a theatre was assaulted by a group of Muslim youth in Sulliya town of Dakshina Kannada district in Karnataka.

The two students, Mohammed Imtiyaz (20) and his 18-year-old girlfriend who belonged to the same community, were waiting to watch the movie Kantara on Wednesday when they were attacked. A group of youth on the premises warned them against watching the movie and when the couple insisted, they were physically assaulted. A mob soon joined the group in assaulting the couple.

The mob reportedly did not want the couple to watch the film that revolves around Hindu traditions and myths.

Imtiyaz and his friend later filed a complaint with the Sullia police, naming the persons who assaulted them. The accused have been identified as Abdul Hameed, Ashraf, Sadique, Jabeer Jattipalla and Siddique Borugudde. They also threatened them with life, the complaint said.
