China sees GDP growth at 9.3 pc
China's economy will grow between 8.3 per cent and 9.3 per cent next year.

Shanghai: China's economy will grow between 8.3 per cent and 9.3 per cent next year, with the nation's currency, the yuan, gradually continuing to appreciate, a top economic think-tank forecast on Friday.

The nation's gross domestic product would grow 8.3 per cent, 8.8 per cent or 9.3 per cent next year, based on three different scenarios put forth by the State Information Centre, a top government think-tank, in a four-page economic forecast published in the official China Securities Journal.

China's trade surplus would approach $100 billion this year, and grow to about $117 billion next year.

It added that total imports and exports would exceed $1.4 trillion this year, with growth for both at about 20 percent next year.

The nation's foreign exchange reserves will reach $950 billion by the end of 2006, with domestic forex supply expected to exceed demand, according to the State Information Centre, which advises China's cabinet on macroeconomic policy.

It also forecast that China's consumer price index would rise between 1.5 per cent and 3.2 per cent next year.
