New Delhi: Guess who is doing all the job-hopping these days! The IT techies, who else?

So much so that in maximum cases, the longest stint that an IT professional has worked with his or her current employer is just two years.

According to a survey by technology job site CyberMedia Dice, as many as 75 per cent of IT professionals have been with their current employers for less than 2 years.

What this means is that in a job market of high attrition, the IT techies are jumping jobs every few months as they look for a fast-track career growth.

The findings also indicate that the IT professionals are restless and very ambitious, and are constantly getting short-term promotions, fast career growth and regular financial gains for the IT sector employees.

The online survey was conducted among some 1,886 respondents from over 350,000 members enrolled on the job site. It was carried out by the Indian arm of custom research agency, TNS.

The survey shows nearly 63 per cent of the IT professionals have less than five years of work experience in IT or IT-related field and more than 70 per cent have been promoted in the last one year .

Nearly one-fourth of the job-seeking IT professionals are "an extremely happy and a committed lot" with 70 plus rating in terms of employee-employer relationship, which is pretty higher than the Indian industry average of 62.

The survey says IT professionals promoted in the last six months in their company have the highest satisfaction level while those waiting for their promotion for over two years are the least committed to their jobs.

It also found that professionals at junior to middle level with a gross salary of Rs 5 lakh are more committed than those at the middle or senior level with a salary of Rs 12 lakh. Multinational companies (Indian or non-Indian) are able to command higher level of commitment compared to those respondents with Indian or joint venture companies, it said.

Those who believe that IT professionals have enough time on hand for fun and 'pubbing' are in for a surprise as three out of five IT professionals spend between 8-10 hours of work every day. One out of six IT professionals put in over 10 hours of work and only one out of four were lucky to put in under eight hours of work, it said.

According to the survey, the West of the country has the highest average annual salary of Rs 4.91 lakh followed by the South 4.79 lakh. North and East had Rs 4.58 lakh and Rs 4.14 lakh respectively.

The average annual salary of job seeking IT professionals in Bangalore and Gurgaon, just above the Rs 6 lakh mark, is the highest in the country, it said.

"It shows that the IT employees are restless and very ambitious, looking for a fast-track career growth. It's quite a challenge for the industry to meet their ambitions and aspirations," PTI quoted CyberMedia Chairman and Managing Director Pradeep Gupta as saying.
