New Delhi: The markets are trading strong with significant gains on the back heavy buying seen in the metal, IT, FMCG and auto sectors. All the key indices are trading firm and the market breadth is extremely impressive in favour of advances.
At 1031 hrs, IST, the Sensex is up 157.35 points or 1.14 per cent at 13938.86, and the Nifty up 44.90 points or 1.10 per cent at 4124.2. About 1293 shares have advanced, 347 shares declined, and 37 shares are unchanged.
Top gainers on the Sensex are Tata Steel at Rs 576.75 up 2.59 per cent, Bajaj Auto at Rs 2,628.70 up 2.51 per cent and Wipro at Rs 561.45 up 2.16 per cent.
Top losers on the Sensex are Ranbaxy Labs at Rs 392.05 down 0.28 per cent, Hero Honda at Rs 700.95 down 0.05 per cent. Index heavyweight Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 193.35 up 1.2 per cent from its previous close of Rs 191.05.
Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 1,604.50 up 0.46 per cent from its previous close of Rs 1,597.10. Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 2,003.10 up 1.14 per cent from its previous close of Rs 1,980.55.
Stock brokers said reports that the US Federal Reserve kept the benchmark interest unchanged, triggered a fresh spell of buying by foreign funds.
Stocks of IT, auto, oil and gas, banking and capital goods sectors were the major gainers, lifting the Sensex higher.
