Mkts end marginally lower amid extreme volatility
Frontline indices are moving in particular range and consolidating.

Mumbai: Markets ended with marginal loss amid extreme volatility through the day as frontline indices were moving in particular range and consolidating for the next upmove.

Selling pressure was seen in major oil, capital goods, select banking and power while buying in metal, pharma and select technology stocks. The Nifty Fifty was hovering around 4,400 mark while Sensex remained above 14,500.

Midcap and small cap stocks held market breadth in positive. About 1,993 shares have advanced while 966 shares declined. Nearly 197 shares remained unchanged.

The Sensex closed at 14,577.87, down 78.82 points or 0.54 per cent after swinging between high/low of 14,725.94 and 14,503.51, respectively. Nifty lost 18.2 points or 0.41 per cent to settle at 4395.35. It has touched an intraday high of 4436.15 and low of 4362.90.

Amongst frontliners, TCS lost -2.73 per cent, Tata Comm -2.96 per cent, BPCL -2.57 per cent, Reliance Ind -2.49 per cent, BHEL -2.41 per cent, ONGC -1.53 per cent and Sterlite Ind -1.38 per cent while HCL Tech gained 6.10 per cent, SAIL 4.39 per cent, Grasim Industries 3.18 per cent, Reliance Petro 3.11 per cent, ABB 2.87 per cent, Ranbaxy Labs 2.80 per cent, Jaiprakash Associates 2.38 per cent, Maruti Suzuki 2.08 per cent, Tata Steel 1.63 per cent,

Metal index outperformed other indices, shot up 2.06 per cent or 273.26 points at 13,523.57 as steel manufacturers may raise product prices from August 7. Ispat Industries, JSW Steel, JindalStainless, Mahalaxmi Sm, SAIL, and Welspun Guj gained 4-10 per cent.

Pharma stocks like Piramal Health, Aurobindo Pharma, Opto Circuits, Cadila Health, Divis Labs, Matrix Lab, Ranbaxy Labs and Lupin jumped up 2-6 per cent. Healthcare Index was up 1.51 per cent or 63.36 points at 4,254.20.

Realty Index ended at 5,231.62, up 0.62 per cent or 32.42 points. Anant Raj Ind, HDIL, Indiabulls Real, Sobha Developer, Parsvnath and Peninsula Land have gained.

Bankex gained 0.58per cent at 6,767.61 due to buying in Yes Bank, Andhra Bank, IOB, Karnataka Bank, Axis Bank, IndusInd Bank, IDBI Bank, Allahabad Bank and Union Bank shot up by 2.5-5per cent.

Technology stocks like HCL Tech, Aptech, Rolta, Patni Computer, Satyam and Infosys also moved up. Index rose 0.40per cent at 3,815.43.

BSE Midcap and Small Cap indices shot up by 1.77per cent each to 5,742.72 and 7,103.34, respectively. Amongst midcap stocks, Jai Balaji Ind, Guj Ind Power, Ispat Industries, Maytas Infra, Dish TV India, Titan Industries, JindalStainless, Torrent Power, Electrosteel and HCC rose 8-20per cent.

In the small cap space, Sunflag Iron, Nirlon, Zicom Security, RSWM, Lloyds Metals and Titagarh Wagons were up by 12-16per cent.

However, Capital Goods Index fell 103.04 points or 0.85per cent at 12,028.96. Selling pressure was seen in Crompton Greaves, BHEL, Kirloskar Bros and L&T.

Power stocks like Suzlon Energy, Reliance Infra and NTPC lost ground. Index slipped 0.20per cent at 2,656.33. However, Torrent Power, GVK Power and GMR Infra gained 3.5-8.5per cent.

In the Oil & Gas space, Reliance Ind, BPCL, ONGC and GAIL went down while Essar Oil, Reliance Petro, Aban Offshore, RNRL, IOC, Cairn India and HPCL gained. Index fell 0.18per cent at 10,028.45.

Turnover traded in markets was very low, which stood at Rs 62,875.87 crore. This includes Rs 13,517.94 crore from NSE Cash Segment, Rs 43,364.62 crore from NSE F&O and Rs 5,993.31 crore from BSE Cash segment.

Most active counters on the bourses were Reliance Industries, Reliance Comm, L&T, Ranbaxy Labs, Reliance Petro and ICICI Bank.

On the global front, Asian markets ended in negative terrain. Shanghai and Kospi fell around 2per cent. Hang Seng, Nikkei, Jakarta and Straits Times slipped 1-1.5per cent. Taiwan was down 0.4per cent.

European markets were trading mixed, at the time of writing market report. FTSE was up 0.3per cent while CAC and DAX fell 0.3per cent and 0.5per cent, respectively.
