Reports reveal that the former Miss World donned a staggering 200 kg of real gold ornaments, pearls, and other precious metals. Crafting these exquisite pieces required the expertise of 70 artisans, and to safeguard the valuable assets, a team of 50 guards was employed. Little did the director anticipate that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s on-screen fashion statement would soon evolve into a nationwide trend, captivating the masses.
What adds intrigue to this tale is that while donning her Jodhaa persona, Aishwarya, in collaboration with designer Neeta Lulla, discussed her own wedding attire. In an interview, Neeta Lulla revealed that the actress expressed a distinct vision for her bridal outfit. Aishwarya desired a departure from the movie’s opulent costume, opting for a traditional silk Kanjeevaram saree that resonated with her cultural roots. This choice showcased her reverence for tradition and a desire to mirror her heritage during the significant occasion. Neeta Lulla crafted a unique saree for Aishwarya, complemented by a basic 5-inch sleeve blouse, presenting a harmonious blend of elegance and tradition.
Jodhaa Akbar emerged as the third highest-grossing film of 2008, a testament to its widespread appeal. The movie also earned recognition, clinching two awards: Best Choreography for the song Azeem O Shaan Shahenshah and Best Costume Design, credited to Neeta Lulla for her masterful contributions.
