'A Revenge of November 19': Sreesanth, Sunil Gavaskar, Matthew Hayden Wants IND vs AUS Final in T20 World Cup
The legends of the game want a match-up between India and Australia in the T20 World Cup final on June 29 in Barbados

The T20 World Cup 2024 is just a few days away and the cricket pundits are up with their predictions of the title winners. The showpiece event begins May 5in the United States and the West Indies. Ahead of the beginning of the much-awaited T20 World Cup in the West, several experts of the game picked their two finalists who would fight for the coveted silverware on June 29 at Kensington Oval, Barbados.

In a video shared by the official broadcaster of the World Cup, Star Sports, former West Indies skipper Brain Lara said he would like to see the hosts, Windies fighting with India for the cup in the final.

“It will be amazing if West Indies, who are hosting the World Cup, face India in the finals,” Lara said on Star Sports.

Former England captain Paul Collingwood predicted a summit clash between the Three Lions and the hosts, West Indies. However, most former cricketers want a match-up between India and Australia. Indian batting legend Sunil Gavaskar, former India pacer S Sreesanth and former Australia opening batter Matthew Hayden wish to see a tight contest between the two giants on June 29.

“My top teams would be India and Australia,” Gavaskar told Star Sports.

“Top two for me, India and Australia,” Hayden said.

“The final will be India vs Australia, which would be [India’s] revenge for the ODI World Cup in the upcoming tournament,” said Sreesanth.

Former Protea fast bowler Chirs Morris wants to see India take on South Africa in the big final.

“I think it will be India vs South Africa in the T20 World Cup final. India are the big tournament team and they do well in World Cups,” said Chris Morris.

Team India begin preparations in the US

After two months of intense competitive cricket under night lights, the Indian cricket team, sans Virat Kohli, began its preparations for the T20 World Cup with a morning training session, keeping in mind the 10.30 am starts for all its preliminary games.

Having played 90 per cent of the matches under lights in the scorching Indian summer, the idea would be to adjust to pleasant mornings where temperatures will hover between 25 to 27 degrees Celsius with very little humidity.

A white kookaburra in slightly windy mornings could be a challenge and to be prepared for that, the severely jet-lagged bodies need to get used to morning conditions. This is why the support staff, before initiating the skills training (net sessions) on the practice pitches at Nassau County ground on the city’s outskirts, have decided to help the player acclimatise with the conditions.
