Former England captain Michael Vaughan has been recently in the news for accusing the International Cricket Council (ICC) of favouring India in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. Be it on social media or the podcasts he has been part of, Vaughan has asserted that the ‘whole event is geared towards India’ while the global cricketing body should be ‘a little bit fairer’ to everybody. However, ahead of the final clash between India and South Africa on Saturday in Barbados, the former cricketer was all praise for the men in blue.

Taking to the microblogging site X on Saturday, Vaughan wrote if India manage to defeat South Africa and win a second T20 World title, they will get onto a trophy-winning spree and add a few to the cabinet in the coming years. It has been 11 years since India won an ICC title. Their last triumph was in 2013, in the Champions Trophy in England, under the leadership of MS Dhoni.
“I feel if India get the job done today they are going to go on a trophy winning spree .. they have so much quality in and out of this squad .. Its been 10 yrs since they won a trophy and this one could lead to quite a few over the next years .. #T20WC2024Final,” Vaughan posted.

Vaughan accuses ICC of favouring India
Vaughan slammed the ICC for the World Cup match scheduling and accused it of favouring India over other participants.
“Literally, it’s their tournament. They get to play whenever they want. They get to know exactly where their semifinal will be. They play every single game in the morning so people can watch them at night in India on TV. I get that. I get that money is a big play in the world of cricket. And I get that in bilateral series but you would think that when you get to a World Cup, the ICC should be a little bit fairer to everybody. It shouldn’t be just India just because they bring a few quid in” Vaughan said in the Club Prairie Fire podcast.
He echoed the same sentiment on X after the Proteas knocked out Afghanistan, saying, “Surely this Semi should have been the Guyana one .. but because the whole event is geared towards India it’s so unfair on others.”
