'I Miss You Every Single Day, Baba': Sachin Tendulkar Pays Tribute to Late Father in Emotional Post on Social Media
Sachin Tendulkar was in England representing India at the ODI World Cup in 1999 when his father passed away.

Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar has paid rich tributes to his late father who passed away on May 19, 1999 while he was in England for the ODI World Cup with the Indian cricket team.

Tendulkar, one of the greatest batters to have played the game, penned a note for his father Ramesh on Instagram pouring out his emotions while talking up the impact he left on his life.

“It has been 25 years since Baba left us, but standing by his old chair today, it feels like he is still here,” Tendulkar wrote while sharing a series of pictures including that of a chair that belonged to his father.

Tendulkar, 26, heard the news of father’s death on the eve of a world cup match against Zimbabwe. He flew to India and attended the funeral and returned to England scoring a century against Kenya in a winning cause that kept his team alive in the competition.

“I was only 26 at the time, and now, at 51, I see even more clearly how much he impacted my life and the lives of many others. Visiting this place after 43 years on his 25th death anniversary was incredibly emotional. His wisdom and kindness continue to inspire me. I miss you every single day, Baba, and I hope I am living up to the values you instilled in me,” Tendulkar added.

Tendulkar retired as international cricket’s most prolific run-getter in history. He also holds the record for being the only player in history to have hit 100 centuries in international career.

Tendulkar may have set new benchmark during his storied career but winning an ODI World Cup was his biggest dream and he realised it in 2011 when India won the title beating Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
