A day after one of the Green Park stands was ‘deemed dangerous’ by the Uttar Pradesh Public Work Department (UP PWD) ahead of the 2nd Test India vs Bangladesh Test match staled on September 27, the section in question – Balcony C Stand – will now be open for spectators following repair work and a positive safety report by Harcourt Butler Technical University (HBTU) and repair work.
The balcony will have a seating capacity of 1,700 spectators at the top and 1,900 at the bottom. The UP PWD had earlier asked the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) to sell tickets less than half the capacity of the Balcony C Stand.
Venue director Sanjay Kapoor said that 5,000 additional seats have been installed for the Test match – the first three years at the stadium.
Kapoor also added that the floodlights around the stadium are in good condition and the ground is match-ready. He said that cricket enthusiasts can gear up for a thrilling match at Kanpur.
Even though rain threats loom large for the first two days of the Test, and the ground was kept covered owing to light rain two days ahead of the match, the venue director is confident that the excellent drainage arrangements and two Super Sopper machines at their disposal will help the ground dried up quickly.
“The Green Park Stadium has been decked up and all preparations have been completed. This match will be celebrated not just in the Green Park stadium but throughout Kanpur,” added Kapoor.
