India vs South Africa Test Series 2023: Following some enthralling white-ball action, Team India will now shift their focus to the Test assignments of the South Africa tour. Both teams are set to feature in a two-match Test series, starting December 26. It is only the second time in history that India have managed to beat South Africa in an ODI series in their backyard. India will now eye to replicate the performance in the upcoming Tests to wrap up the tour on a positive note.
The opening Test between India and South Africa is slated to be hosted at the SuperSport Park Cricket Stadium in Centurion, with the on-field proceedings kicking off at 1:30 PM IST on each of the five days.
The action will then move to the Newlands Cricket Ground in Capetown which will host the second Test.
India will field a completely different squad in the Test series as 12 players featuring in the white-ball leg would have taken a return flight home. Captain Rohit Sharma will take over the leadership responsibility, with senior players like Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin also making a comeback to the squad. These players were rested after competing in the ODI World Cup.
Only four players from the ODI squad– KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Mukesh Kumar – will stay in South Africa to play the Test series. Mohammad Shami and Ishan Kishan were also set to feature in the Tets but later pulled out. While Shami was ruled out due to an injury, Kishan sought rest due to personal reasons, with KS Bharat replacing him in the squad.
