IPL 2024: Rajasthan Royals Skipper Sanju Samson Planning to Take it 'One Game at a Time'
Rajasthan Royals are on 16 points, six clear at the top of the IPL 2024 points table but Sanju Samson is not looking too far ahead.

Sanju Samson led from the front with an unbeaten 33-ball 71 as Rajasthan Royals (RR) beat Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by seven wickets in their 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Saturday.

Samson blasted seven boundaries and four sixes in another brilliant innings to help RR recover from two quick wickets and with help from Dhruv Jurel, who scored 52 not out off 34 balls, raised 121 runs for the fourth wicket partnership to guide RR to a comfortable victory.

The win took top-placed RR to 16 points — six clear from the second-best Kolkata Knight Riders — and a step closer to becoming the first team to reach the playoffs in the 17th edition.

Sanju though is not looking too far ahead.

“We have been doing really well. We have been a little lucky as well. We need to keep the process right. At the team meetings, we talk about ticking the processes. One game at a time for us,” Sanju Samson said at the post-match presentation.

Samson had started slowly and waited for his chances before exploding into action. He came in at 60/1 and saw his team go down to 78/3, so his first seven shots were for singles. A four off veteran Amit Mishra was followed by a couple of boundaries against Thakur. Ravi Bishnoi was also mistreated as Samson hit him for back-to-back fours in the 16th over.

A reverse-hit four off Krunal Pandya over point fielder was his best shot of the day before his power-hitting in the last couple of overs. Samson completed his half-century off 28 balls as he went after the bowling with 84 needed off 48 deliveries.

Sanju was happy for his partner at the end and praised Jurel, saying: “Form is temporary in this format. We have seen Jurel in Tests. We believe in him. He has been batting one hour and two hours at times in the nets.”
