'It Was Written', Says 'Raja' Rohit Sharma at Wankhede Felicitation Following T20WC 2024 Crowning
Rohit was given a hero's welcome in Mumbai, where he was hailed like a king. He dedicated the trophy to the fans and spoke about the nation's desire for a title for over a decade, which the men in blue recently fulfilled.

Team India were treated to a raucous reception at the Wankhede on return to the homeland following their title-clinching exploits in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the Caribbean.

Rohit Sharma led the men in blue to their second T20WC title and ended an 11-year title drought for the nation. He was given a hero’s welcome in Mumbai, where he was hailed like a king.

He dedicated the trophy to the fans and touched upon the nation’s desire for a title for over a decade.

“On behalf of my team and BCCI, I would like to thank the fans. For the last 11 years, they have wanted the trophy back in India,” he began.

“As much desperation we had to win the trophy, the fans had it a bit more,” he added.

“Every World Cup win is special. So I’d like to leave the 2007 where it is. We showed the world how to win the T20 World Cup. And 2011 we won the ODI World Cup in Wankhede. 2013 Champions Trophy in England, again that was special!”

Rohit spoke about the stunning Suryakumar Yadav catch that turned the tide of the game in India’s favour and lauded his teammate for the exceptional effort.

‘It was written,” the skipper said with a smile.

“I was at long-on, Surya was at long off and of course Hardik was bowling. Hats off to him for bowling that last over. No matter how many runs you need, there is always pressure to bowl that over,” Rohit revealed.

“When the pressure is there, those catches need to be taken and all the moments of training come into your mind. And at that moment it was a brilliant effort from him to take the catch,” he added.

He paid tribute to his team as he acknowledged their resilience and willingness to stand up in the face of adversity.

“I am blessed to have this team, who at any given time have stood up to the challenges,” the skipper said.

“This team is special and I am lucky to have the chance to captain this unit,” he concluded.
