'It's Called Having a Personal Life': Michael Clarke Blasts Australian News Outlet for Front-Page Story About His Girlfriend
The former Australian skipper, Michael Clarke has hit back at an Australian news outlet for making his personal life a front-page story.

Former Australia Test captain, Michael Clarke has hit back at Australian media for creating a front-page story about his personal life. The former Aussie batter was pictured riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle along with his new and supposed partner.

Sydney’s The Daily Telegraph published a story with it on the front page headlined, “Pup revs up his love life – Michael Clarke hits the road with new flame”.

The 43-year-old was perplexed with such interest in his personal life despite being out of international cricket for so many years. “Anybody get murdered yesterday? Let’s put a picture of me going for a motorbike ride – that’s way more important,” Clarke said on the Sky Sports Radio’s Big Sports Breakfast program.

“I (could not) believe it when you showed me that this morning. Guys, get your priorities right. On a serious note, how does that make the front page?” he added.

During the podcast, Clarke was told that he is still considered a high-profile personality, but the former Aussie skipper did not buy it. He suggested that it was time to move on

“You can no longer hang on to your ‘captain of Australia’. I’m not, I retired 10 years ago. Go and get a picture of Pat Cummins doing his gardening or going fishing,” he added.

Clarke is one of the finest batters and captains that Australia has produced. The former skipper has led the Australian Test side after Ricky Ponting’s retirement. He also led the national team to the ODI World Cup in 2015 where his side beat New Zealand at home.

Clarke further commented on the issue as he claims that it is normal to have a personal life when not on the pitch. He commented, “It’s called (having a) personal life. There’s got to be something more important than me riding a motorbike. I know it sells, but the front page of Australia’s biggest paper? Give me a break.”

Currently, the Australian cricket team are on a break after their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign where they ended their campaign in the Super-Eight stages. The side are now gearing up for their white-ball tour of the United Kingdom where they take on Scotland and England.
