Shivam Dube has been the standout player for India in the T20I series against Afghanistan where the all-rounder has been displaying his all-around game throughout the series. Consecutive fifties with the bat and taking wickets across both games, Dube has showcased his potential in the international stage and could be making his case for selection for India’s squad in the T20 World Cup.
In an interaction with Sports18 with experts, Saba Karim and Parthiv Patel, the all-rounder talked about improving his game and his thoughts on the upcoming World Cup.
Dube emphasised the difference in quality when playing domestic cricket as opposed to the IPL with the latter featuring world-class talents, thus posing a bigger challenge for him especially with the bat. He said,” I have worked a lot on it. When I was playing domestic cricket, I was able to dominate all the bowlers, but when it came to IPL and Indian cricket it was not easy as bowlers were bowling over 140km/hr. I worked a lot with side arms, but it is more about the mindset with which I worked.

With Hardik Pandya out injured and his fitness remaining an uncertainty ahead of the T20 World Cup, the selectors could have a pace-bowling all-round option in their hands with Dube being in fine form in the international format.
However, Dube has revealed that he is more focused on what is happening in the present and will look to keep himself grounded and improve his skill set. He said,” In the past, I have thought a lot about the future. But I have realised that I got to focus on the present. I have to focus on how to improve my skills, so that’s more important to me. I just try to keep myself grounded and try to focus on what I have to do.”

With his newfound aggression in the batting front along with his ability to chip in with wickets, India will hope that Dube can continue with his good form through the final T20I and the IPL for the selectors to pick him as part of the squad as India will be aiming to reclaim the T20 World Cup which has eluded them since the inaugural edition under the leadership of a younger MS Dhoni.
India will be looking to clinch the win for the final T20I which is set to take place at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru with Dube eyeing another clinical performance to whitewash Afghanistan in the three-match series.
