After overcoming Sri Lanka in a low-scoring affair, South Africa are now set to take on the Netherlands in the second group-league fixture of this ICC T20 World Cup. Whoever wins the match will strengthen their lead at the top of Group D. The Netherlands also emerged victorious in their opening game of the tournament, beating Nepal by six wickets in Dallas. The Dutch unit will look to continue the momentum in the next game against South Africa, which will be played at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on June 8.
With Anrich Nortje spearheading the pace attack, South Africa bundled out Sri Lanka for 77 runs in the T20 World Cup opener. Nortje fetched a four-wicket haul while Kagiso Rabada and Keshav Maharaj picked two scalps each. Though it looked like an easy deal, the Proteas batters had to struggle a bit to secure the win. They had lost four wickets before chasing down the target in the 17th over.
The Netherlands also put up an enthralling bowling show in the previous game and restricted Nepal to 106 runs. Logan van Beek and Tim Pringle each took three wickets for the Dutch side. Max O’Dowd shone with the bat during the chase. The opening batter struck an unbeaten 54 off 48 balls, helping the Netherlands to register a comfortable win in 18.4 overs.
