The England women’s cricket team made history on this day in 1993 after winning their second-ever ODI World Cup. Playing at the Lord’s, the English side got the better of New Zealand in the final to win the game by 67 runs.

Her opening partner Debbie Hockley later found herself caught up in a run-out affair, leaving the Kiwis reeling at 60/3 in 27 overs.

Maia Lewis attempted to rescue the game for New Zealand with a 28-run knock. But she was eventually dismissed by Clare Taylor. Gill Smith came up with a splendid performance having registered a three-wicket haul before Suzanne Kitson picked up the final wicket of Catherine Campbell to bowl New Zealand out for 128.
