T20 World Cup: USA's Ali Khan Says 'Hum Nay Pakistan Pick Ki Jis Ko Hum Gira Saktay Hain'

USA fast bowler Ali Khan recently shared his thoughts about the historic win over Pakistan in the T20 World Cup. It was no doubt a monumental achievement for the USA who debuted in the tournament this year on home soil. The co-hosts kicked off the campaign in style, beating Canada by seven wickets. They were up against Pakistan in the following game, which turned out to be a nail-biting encounter. Both teams produced 159, forcing a Super Over where the USA notched a five-run win. Khan, who was part of the victorious unit, talked about the match during a recent interview with former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif on Times of Karachi.

Rashid Latif revealed that the people of Pakistan were unhappy with Ali Khan, who has his roots in the country. The USA cricketer said that those fans would have been more disappointed if he had “bowled the Super Over.”

“I am thankful that they didn’t ask me to bowl that over. Otherwise, I won’t be able to come to Pakistan again. It was a very emotional game as Pakistan is a big team. We never played against them earlier and then we got that in the World Cup. They have some big names like Babar Azam, (Mohammed) Rizwan, Fakhar Zaman and Shaheen Afridi,” Khan explained.

According to Ali Khan, they got a huge confidence boost after defeating Bangladesh in a bilateral T20I series ahead of the World Cup. The fast bowler further revealed that the USA were confident about beating Canada and Ireland in the league stage of the T20 World Cup. “When it came to India and Pakistan, we had to pick one side to bear and it was Pakistan. We had our plans set and once we stepped onto the field, we executed our plans very well,” he said.

Ali Khan feels the Pakistan unit failed to showcase their A-game in the match in New York. “If you see Pakistan’s history, either they will destroy you or they will get destroyed by their own. We were lucky that day,” he added.

After winning two matches in the group stage, the USA qualified for the Super 8 round while Pakistan finished third in the table. The American side, however, could not continue the momentum afterwards. They lost to England, South Africa and West Indies in the Super 8 stage and were knocked out of the tournament.
