After a dream season in the IPL 2024 with the Kolkata Knight Riders, where he picked up 19 wickets for the Shah Rukh Khan-owned franchise, pacer Harshit Rana earned his maiden India call-up in July 2024. He was added to India’s squad for the first two T20Is against Zimbabwe but didn’t get a chance to play in Harare. After being part of the T20I side for a brief period, Rana now has the opportunity to be part of India’s ODI set-up.
The 22-year-old pacer was included in India’s 50-over squad for the upcoming three-match series against Sri Lanka. India will face Sri Lanka in three ODIs at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on August 2, 4, and 7, where Rana will have a chance to play under the leadership of Rohit Sharma and share the dressing room with Virat Kohli.
After his name was announced in the Indian squad for the ODI series against Sri Lanka, the Delhi-based pacer took to Instagram to share a picture in which he can be seen lifting his dad, who was wearing the jersey of the Indian cricket team. The youngster captioned the post, “This BELONGS to you… LOVE YOU DAD.”

Rana, who has been associated with KKR in the IPL since 2022, had played seven matches in the IPL before the 2024 edition and had picked up six wickets. In the IPL 2024, the youngster made headlines for his wicket-taking abilities and celebrations as well. He gave a flying kiss send-off to Mayank Agarwal in the first match of IPL 2024 for KKR, and then when he tried to repeat the same celebration again, he was penalised by the BCCI and banned for one match.
India’s pace attack for SL ODIs
In the absence of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh will lead India’s pace attack in the ODI series against Sri Lanka, which starts on August 2. Mohammed Siraj, who has a traffic record against Sri Lanka in ODIs, and Khaleel Ahmed are there to assist him, along with Rana. Khaleel, who was one of the four reserve players in the T20 World Cup 2024 for India, is back in the ODI team after a gap of five years.
