'We Will Win WTC And Champions Trophy': Jay Shah Announces Rohit Sharma Will Continue Leading India in Tests and ODIs
Rohit Sharma had recently announced his retirement from T20Is but will continue representing India in Tests and ODIs.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah had earlier this year correctly predicted that India will lift T20 World Cup trophy under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. He has now expressed confidence that the team will continue winning global tournaments while announcing that Rohit Sharma will continue to captain India in Tests and ODIs.

After captaining India to victory at the World Cup in June, Rohit had announced he has played his last T20I. Alongside Rohit, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja also retired from the format.

In a video message, Shah congratulated the team on the world cup victory and dedicated it to the retiring trio alongwith outgoing head coach Rahul Dravid.

“I congratulate Team India for this historic win. I want to dedicate this win to coach Rahul Dravid, captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja,” Shah said on Sunday.

“In the past one year, this was out third ICC final. In June we lost WTC final, in the ODI World Cup, we won hearts with 10 wins in a row but the cup eluded us. I had said in Rajkot that in June 2024 not only will we win hearts but the cup too.” he added.

India defeated South Africa in the final held at Barbados’ Kensington Oval on June 29.

At one stage, South Africa needed just 30 off 30 before Indian fast bowlers staged a dramatic recovery to record a seven-run win.

“The last five overs proved pivotal to the win. And for that, I want to thank Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya,” Shah said.

“Our next target is WTC Final and Champions Trophy. I am confident that under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, we will win both the tournaments,” he added.

The final of the ongoing World Test Championship will be held in at Lord’s in 2025 while Pakistan are slated to host the Champions Trophy next year.

India have won Champions Trophy once in 2013 while they finished runners-up in the first two editions of WTC.
