Former India selector Jatin Paranjpe believes that India's performance in the Kanpur Test was ‘just the trailer’ of the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia.

Team India pulled off an unthinkable act in Kanpur, defeating Bangladesh comprehensively in a rain-affected Test match. After 35 overs were bowled on the opening day, the rain washed out 8 straight sessions at Green Park with a draw seeming to be the only conclusion of the game. But India showcased an all-round show to end the match in their favour in less than two days.

After bundling out Bangladesh for 233, Rohit Sharma and co switched on their attacking mode to register the fastest team 50, 100, 150 and 200 in Test history and declared the innings with a 55-run lead. In reply, the visitors could set a target of just 95 runs which India chased down in 17.2 overs to sweep series 2-0.

India are eyeing a third consecutive World Test Championship final qualification. They will now face New Zealand for 3 Tests before flying to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy which will be a series of 5 Test matches, starting November 22 in Perth.

Former India selector and currently a part of the BCCI Cricket Advisory Committee, Jatin Paranjpe believes that India’s performance in the Kanpur Test was ‘just the trailer’ of the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia.

“I think Ashwin is in tremendous form and what happened with Team India in that Kanpur Test is just a trailer about what is going to happen in Australia,” Paranjpe was quoted as saying by NDTV.

Further praising Ashwin, Paranjpe said watching the veteran all-rounder bat and bowl is like reading a thriller novel.

Ashwin became the Player of the Series for picking up 11 wickets and 114 runs in 2 matches. He smashed his 6th Test hundred in Chennai where he also equalled legendary Shane Warne’s tally of 37 five-wicket hauls in the longest format of the game.

“Ashwin’s best three to five years are in front of him. Watching him bat and bowl is exactly like reading a thriller novel. You are holding your breath and eagerly waiting for the next ball just like you wait to read the next page of a book,” he added.
