Legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar took to his social media accounts on Thursday (August 29) to share a picture of celebration from her mother Rajni Tendulkar’s 87th birthday. In a picture shared by Sachin, his mother can be seen cutting the cake to celebrate her special day in the presence of other members of the family.

“Having all of us together for Aai’s birthday is the best thing one could ask for. We love you so much, Aai. You mean the world to us. Happy birthday! तुझ्या प्रेमाच्या सावलीतच आम्ही सुखी आहोत. वाढदिवसाच्या शुभेच्छा, आई!,” Tendulkar captioned the post.

Sachin is very close to his family and regularly shares pictures of him spending quality time with them.

Sachin, who made his international debut for India on November 15, 1989, against Pakistan in Karachi, played his last match at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai from November 14 to 16 in 2013. Speaking at the press conference in Mumbai after his farewell Test, Sachin said he had asked the BCCI to host the farewell game in Mumbai so that he could get his mother to watch him play.

“I had requested BCCI to keep my farewell match in Mumbai so that my mother can see me playing. I wanted it to be a surprise; she came to know from you (the media),” said Tendulkar.

He added that his mother was extremely happy to see him play. “My mother was extremely happy to see me play. I had requested the MCA to keep a room for me at the guesthouse, but my mother preferred to sit and watch every ball. When I went to meet her in the president’s box, I could see it in her eyes.”

The 51-year-old Tendulkar, who finished his international career 11 years ago, still holds the record for scoring most runs in Tests and ODI format of the game in addition to playing most number of matches as well. However, his record of most 100s in ODIs was broken by Virat Kohli last year during the ODI World Cup 2023 semifinal match played between India and New Zealand at Wankhede Stadium on November 15.
