Gujarat Tea Seller’s Son Cracks CAT, Secures MBA Seat At IIM Ranchi

Getting admission to IIM is like a dream come true for any candidate. Recently, an IIM aspirant has achieved success after overcoming many struggles and the success story is currently garnering everyone’s attention. According to reports, Ronak Rathi, a resident of Palanpur, Gujarat, has passed CAT at the age of 22 and will now study MBA at IIM Ranchi.

Ronak Rathi’s journey has been full of difficulties. His father runs a tea shop and his mother is a tailor. In a recent interview, Ronak shared that he has studied till the 12th standard in Gujarati. After this, he earned a B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from Adani Institute of Infrastructure Engineering.

Ronak Rathi said initially, he did not know much about CAT and MBA. But he knew about it in the final year of B.Tech. and then started preparing for the CAT exam. Ronak said that he got scholarships for both engineering and MBA. He scored 97.68 per cent marks in the CAT exam.

Ronak’s father, Girish Rathi, is very happy with his son’s success. He said that he does not know much about his son’s studies, but he knows that whatever he is doing very well. Ronak’s father is a tea seller and usually works 12 hours every day and earns around Rs 15,000 every month.

Ronak’s two elder sisters have visual impairments and are preparing for teaching and UPSC exams. Ronak also credits his success to Satish Kumar, an IIM Calcutta alumnus and CAT mentor with a preparatory institute, who helped him with a scholarship for studies.

The institute officials said that Ronak’s is a case that can inspire many from small towns to dream big. “I want to retire my parents from their work so that they can pursue their interests. I also want to support my sisters in achieving their dreams,” said Ronak in the interview.

The Indian Institute of Management Ranchi (IIM Ranchi) is a public business school located in Ranchi, Jharkhand, India. Established on 15 December 2009, it became India’s ninth Indian Institute of Management. It commenced classes on July 6, 2010, marking the inception of the institute under the 11th Five-Year Plan.
