After the NEET exam, yet another paper leak case has come to light. The first-year MBBS exam at Pondicherry University has been postponed due to a paper leak. Students were informed about the postponement of the exam due to a paper leak just before the start of the exam after they had reached the hall to take the exam.
The Assistant Registrar (Medical) of the University sent a circular regarding the postponement of the examination to the Deans/Directors of the colleges affiliated with the university. However, no reason has been given for postponing the examination. The circular states that the examinations of the MBBS 2024 session first year have to be deferred due to unavoidable reasons. The revised schedule of the exam will be released soon.
Earlier in June, the central government notified the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, which aims to prevent unfair means in public examinations and common entrance tests held across the country. The Act aims to curb paper leaks and malpractices in entrance tests. As per the Act, any person found guilty of leaking a paper or tampering with answer sheets is subject to a minimum jail term of three years, which can be extended to five years with a fine of up to Rs 10 lakh.
This comes amid allegations of irregularities in NEET and UGC NET. The Education Ministry had cancelled the UGC NET that was scheduled for June 18 due to the possibility of a paper leak. The June session exam was administered for 11,21,225 applicants across 1205 exam centres located in 317 locations nationwide. However, it was eventually discovered that two days prior to the test, the question paper had been circulated over the dark web. The exam will now be re-conducted from August 21 to September 4.
