School timings in Rajasthan will change from October 16 this year. An order has been issued by the Director of Education Ashish Modi regarding the amendment in Shivira Panchang. Schools in the state operate according to summer timings till September 30 every year. After this, schools open and close according to winter timings from October 1. But this time due to the change in weather and the heat still prevailing, the Education Department has amended the Shivira Panchang.
This year schools will operate according to summer timings till October 15. As per summer timings, schools run in a single shift from 7.30 am to 1 pm. Whereas as per winter timings, schools will open from 10 am to 4 pm.
Teachers’ organizations in Rajasthan had also demanded not to change the school timings due to the intense heat and humid weather in the month of September. Keeping all these things in mind, a revised academic calendar has been issued by the Director of Education.
This is not the first time that Shivira Panchang has been revised due to changes in weather. This has happened before as well. Currently, orders have been given to open schools according to winter timings from October 16. But if there is no significant change in the weather by this date, then it can be revised once again.
Meanwhile, schools will remain closed across India for many days in October owing to Gandhi Jayanti, Navratri, and Dussehra. The first government holiday will be on Gandhi Jayanti on October 2. The next day, October 3, there will be a government holiday in many other states of the country including Rajasthan due to Maharaja Agrasen Jayanti. Schools will also remain closed on Mahastami on October 11 and Vijayadashami on October 12.
