Inspiring stories of individuals often go viral. One such story is that of an IAS officer, who secured 13th rank in the UPSC Civil Service Examination. He changed his career and decided to choose teaching, leaving his prestigious position behind. The name of this person is Namit Mehta. He originally hails from Jodhpur, Rajasthan. When he was a collector once, he reached a Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Bhilwara Rajasthan for a surprise inspection. That’s when he decided to choose teaching as his career. He also taught the students of class 11, on the topic Private Public and Global Enterprise. Likewise, he advised the students to enhance their skills and follow their passion.
Namit Mehta completed his post graduation in Commerce from Jodhpur University. He won the Senior Vice President award of jodhpur University during his college days. After becoming the Vice President of the University, Mehta wanted to contest for the post of president of the Jai Narayan Vyas University, Jodhpur; but, he had to abandon this plan as elections were not held for 2-3 years. During this time, he completed the course of Chartered Accountancy and Company Secretary.
Namit Mehta caught everyone’s attention with his achievements. In 2011, he secured 430th rank and held the top 25 position in the prestigious Union Public Service Commission examination. He was also eligible for an appointment to the Indian Revenue Service (IRS) in the same year but, he was not satisfied with his performance and therefore decided to give it another shot.
During his college days, Mehta made up his mind that he will opt for a career in Civil Service. His father Kamal Mehta who was also a chartered accountant and an academician, helped Namit to focus on making it to civil services. In an interview, he claimed that , with the motivation of his father and wife, he was able to crack the UPSC examination. His interest in public activities also motivated him to take up a career in the civil services.
