Rome: AS Roma captain Francesco Totti is out of Sunday's Rome derby against Lazio because of a thigh strain, the club said on Tuesday.
The 35-year-old Totti was injured in Roma's 3-1 win over Atalanta this month.
Roma say he needs more physiotherapy and that he will undergo more medical tests next week.
Totti is Serie A's fifth all-time leading scorer with 207 goals. He struck twice in March in the most recent match against Lazio, who have gone five games without defeating their city rivals.
Roma lie sixth in Serie A, level on eight points with Lazio, after recovering from a shaky start to the season.
Meanwhile, Lazio are hoping newly-signed Germany forward Miroslav Klose can recuperate in time from a left knee injury.
Roma and Lazio both have eight points from their opening five matches, and trail Serie A leaders Juventus by three points.
