Manchester United made a massive world record €190 million bid for Barcelona's Neymar last summer, the Brazilian striker's father has revealed.

English Premier League (EPL) giants Manchester United made a massive world record €190 million bid for Barcelona's Neymar last summer, the Brazilian striker's father has revealed.

Neymar senior, during his son's court hearing in a tax case in Spain this week, revealed there was a 'side' that had made it clear they were willing to meet his son's huge Nou Camp buy-out clause.

And now the player's father, while talking to Spanish radio station COPE, has named Red Devils as that big-spending 'side' he was talking about in court.

"Manchester United is the team that offered €190 million for Neymar," he said during his radio interview. "He has still two years left on his contract but you can all be calm as my son is so happy here."

United coach Louis van Gaal made no secret of his search for a creative star in the summer and the Old Trafford club have no qualms about splashing out for top players.

The Dutch manager's transfer spend stands at £205m in the space of 18 months.
