London: Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson has confirmed that defender Jonny Evans will be out of action for two weeks after suffering a calf injury during the side's 5-0 win over Wigan in the Premier League on Monday.
Evans became the latest United player to be sidelined, after the defender was forced off at half-time during the match against Wigan on Boxing Day, with 11 first-team players now out of action for the Red Devils.
Ferguson also said after the match that Evans will not make the New Year's Eve encounter with Blackburn.
"Jonny came off injured. He has a calf injury and will be out for two weeks," said Ferguson.
"We have had a nightmare the last few days. Phil Jones and Chris Smalling have both been ill. Rio Ferdinand pulled up yesterday with a back injury and Jonny Evans has come off at half-time. It does put you under pressure," he added.
United are already without Nemanja Vidic (knee injury), Darren Fletcher (illness), Rio Ferdinand (back injury), Michael Owen (thigh injury), Anderson (knee injury), Tom Cleverley (ankle injury), Fabio (hamstring injury), Phil Jones (illness), Ashley Young (knee injury) and Chris Smalling (illness).
Michael Carrick was forced to start in the centre of defence, with Patrice Evra partnering him in the second half against Wigan following Evans' injury, and Phil Jones and Chris Smalling may feature in Saturday's clash with Blackburn.
