Rome: AC Milan defender Alessandro Nesta looks set to be out of action until the new year after doctors confirmed the Italian centreback pulled a thigh muscle in Wednesday's Champions League defeat against Barcelona.
Nesta was forced off in the 66th minute in the 3-2 loss at the San Siro.
"Alessandro Nesta underwent medical tests today which revealed a pulled muscle in his upper thigh," read a statement on Friday on the club's website.
"If there are no complications, it is estimated that the player will be out for a month."
Nesta is the fourth Milan player to pick up a serious injury this season. Mathieu Flamini is out until February, while Antonio Cassano is likely to miss the rest of the campaign. Gennaro Gattuso is back in training but unlikely to play until the new year.
Currently third in Serie A, Milan, who have already qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League, are scheduled to play five league matches before the winter break on December 21, beginning with Sunday's visit of Chievo Verona.
Milan are a point behind Lazio and Juventus in the league standings.
