Manchester United are willing to part ways with Casemiro for a ‘huge loss’ in the ongoing summer transfer window. Since the Brazilian arrived at Old Trafford in 2022, things haven’t steered in the right direction for him. The ex-Real Madrid holding midfielder has constantly struggled with fitness issues, failing to make the playing 11 on numerous occasions. Given his poor showing in England, Football Insider’s sources report that the midfielder is no longer in Erik ten Hag’s plans. The report also suggests the other team coaches opined that Casemiro’s “legs have gone” and he can no longer cope with the pace of the Premier League.
With Casemiro being one of the highest earners at the club, Manchester United are looking to get rid of him to free up their wage bill in the ongoing transfer window. They have already informed the player he’s free to look for a new club. A deal for the Brazilian will likely occur before the ongoing summer transfer window shuts down in August. Football Insider have also claimed that Saudi Pro League clubs are in regular contact with the Brazilian over a potential transfer. As for Casemiro, the ex-Real Madrid midfielder is reportedly in ‘no rush’ to make a decision.
Manchester United reportedly paid £70 million to Real Madrid for Casemiro’s services two years ago. He had signed a long-term contract that bound him to the club until June 2026. Initially seen as an impactful signing, the excitement surrounding Casemiro quickly subsided after conceding multiple injuries in the last couple of years. Despite the setbacks, the Brazilian made 83 appearances for the Red Devils while also scoring 12 goals and providing nine assists. He also won the EFL Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup this year. However, these achievements do not seem to be enough for the Manchester United management.
Just last season, Casemiro made 32 appearances for Manchester United and netted five goals. His underwhelming showing in the Red Devils shirt throughout the campaign drew criticism from fans and pundits alike.
Casemiro isn’t going to be the only first-team player that Erik ten Hag is open to losing this summer. With Erik ten Hag looking to rebuild the squad for the upcoming season, the club will be willing to part ways with Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Aaron Wan-Bissaka if they receive the right offers. It remains to be seen if the Dutch coach can make the required changes to build a squad that’s ready to challenge for the Premier League title once again.
