London: Wayne Rooney has been included in the England squad to face Scotland next week despite being ruled out of Manchester United's last pre-season friendly through injury.
United said that a right shoulder problem kept Rooney out of the trip to Sweden earlier this week, the latest injury problem for the striker who is pushing to join Chelsea but is being denied the move by the Premier League champions.
Rooney also played no part in United's tour of the Far East and Australia last month because of a hamstring injury.
While Rooney is looking to make his 84th England appearance at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday against Scotland, Southampton striker Rickie Lambert has been called up for the first time.
