The sentiment that ‘Biryani can cause wars’ is commonly echoed, underscoring the indescribable love for this Indian delicacy. The pinnacle of this culinary affection is often attributed to Hyderabadi Biryani, hailed as the ‘Baap of all.’ Recently, this adage took a distressing turn as a family found themselves at the center of an altercation with restaurant staff, triggered by their dissatisfaction with the allegedly ‘uncooked’ Biryani served on New Year’s Eve. This unsettling incident unfolded on a Sunday and escalated to the point where a criminal case was filed against 10 restaurant workers in Abids.
The incident, captured on video, portrays a violent altercation where staff members employ unconventional items like bathroom wipers and chairs to confront the customers. Despite pleas from a woman within the family to stop the assault, the attackers persist, resorting to verbal abuse. The video quickly went viral on social media, prompting varied reactions from concerned individuals and those who added lighthearted comments to the mix.

Upon learning about the incident, the police swiftly intervened, apprehending the 10 accused and shutting down the restaurant for the night.
According to a TOI report, the altercation originated when a six-member family from Mangalhat visited the restaurant for dinner. After ordering roti and curry, they requested Biryani. Upon receiving the dish, the customers complained about the rice not being properly cooked. The waiter replaced the Biryani but, upon receiving the bill, the family refused to pay for the dish, insisting it be excluded due to its perceived lack of proper cooking.
Explaining further, Assistant Commissioner of Police, A Chandrasekhar, added, “When the server questioned them about it, an argument ensued. In a fit of anger, one of the customers slapped the waiter, who immediately called his colleagues. The staff then became aggressive with the family.”
