17 hurt as lorry hits car

THOOTHUKUDI: Seventeen persons were injured in a road accident that occurred at Naalaatinputhur near Kovilpatti on Friday.A car was stationed alongside the National Highway in Naalatinputhur on Friday morning due to a deflated tyre. A lorry proceeding towards Kovilpatti from Kayathar hit the car. At the same time a van going from Tirunelveli to Kovilpatti collided with the lorry.Seventeen persons who were travelling in the van to attend a religious meeting in Kovilpatti were injured and were rushed to Kovilpatti Government Hospital for treatment. Out of them, Maria Devi (42), Mary (65) and S Ilangovan (37) all hailing from Tirunelveli, suffered injuries and were admitted to the Tirunelveli Government Medical College Hospital.Naalaatinputhur police have registered a case and are investigating.Two Buried AliveMeanwhile in Tirunelveli, two persons died near Alangulam on Friday when they were buried alive inside a well.Enasami (48) of Siruthankurichi were digging a  well in a farm for the last few days.  On Friday, after digging, when the duo pumped out the water from the well, sand piled up at the top of the well caved in, burying them alive. They were rushed to the Tirunelveli GH, but died on the way.
