JAJPUR: Two Maoists surrendered before Jajpur SP on Saturday. The ultras were identified as Tukuna Badara alias Rakesh (20) and Suturi Jamuda alias Madhuri (15), of Baligotha village under Kalinga Nagar police limits in the district.“Though Tukuna and Suturi were armed cadres of the Maoists under Kalinga Nagar division, they surrendered before police without arms. The two were active in Jajpur, Dhenkanal and Keonjhar districts since 2009. They are involved in a blasting case at Dozer Padia under Kalinga Nagar police limits last year. We suspect their involvement in a number of violent incidents which are being verified,” said SP Deepak Kumar. The two decided to shun violence and join the mainstream as they were disillusioned with Maoist activities, he said. They were influenced to join the Maoists through various inducements but after they joined they were tortured by the Maoists and not given food for days together, he said. The surrendered ultras would be rehabilitated as per the government policy. DIG of Police, Central Range, DS Kutey who was also present in the meeting said “We are trying to rehabilitate the surrendered Maoists, provide them with occupational assistance which will provide them with a livelihood option and help lead a normal life”. As many as 20 Maoists have laid down their arms in front of district police in Jajpur for the last eight months.
