THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Four ‘CIAL-model’ companies are being planned in the state for construction of bus shelters, e-toilets, establishing filtration plants for drinking water supply and garbage disposal, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy told the Assembly on Monday. In these companies, modelled on the development structure of the Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL), the State Government will have 26 percent equity and the remaining funds would be raised through private sources. The bus shelter company will manufacture and maintain bus shelters which will be used across the state. The water supply company would establish filtration plants and supply water locally. These will be set up first in areas which suffer acute scarcity of drinking water, Chandy said. The public toilet company would specialise in constructing and installing e-toilets. This is meant to address the shortage of public toilets in busy public places. The clean city company would address the garbage problems in the urban areas and work towards achieving the target of garbage-free Kerala. As the proposals are still in a nascent stage, the government has not calculated the cost estimates for setting up the four companies, Chandy said in reply to a question by B Sathyan, Koliyakode Krishnan Nair,P T A Raheem and Purushan Kadalundi.
