VIRUDHUNAGAR: As many as 46 persons were injured during a bull taming event organised during a temple festival at Kariapatti near Virudhunagar on Sunday. It was total chaos at the festival as the audience too went berserk and pelted stones at the police personnel, who were trying to regulate crowds.Two police personnel were injured when the crowds resorted to stone pelting.The celebrations in Aaviyur Karupanasamy temple has been underway for the past 10 days. Bulls had been brought from Virudhunagar, Theni, Coimbatore, Dindigul and Pudukottai for the Jallikattu organised as part of the festival.While 46 bull tamers were injured during the event, at least 10 bulls fainted due to inadequate arrangements and lack of proper care, sources said. Police had to use mild force to regulate the crowds after they pelted stones. The injured policemen have been identified as Shanmuganathan and Ramesh of Srivilliputhur.K T Rajendra Balaji, Minister of Information and Special Schemes Implementation, was present at the event.
