Five workers of a brick kiln, including a woman, were killed in a road mishap when the lorry in which they were travelling turned turtle while negotiating a curve at Irukkur village, here on Saturday night.
The deceased were identified as Murugan (50), Ravi (30), Dhakshnamurthy (30), and Radha (30) of Mambakkam village, near Arcot, and Ravi (45) of Siyampatti, near Timiri.
They were working in the brick kiln with Arumugam, the driver, who is a resident of Kosapalayam in Arni.
The incident occurred at about 9.30 pm, when Arumugam lost control of the vehicle, while negotiating a curve and it turned turtle, crushing to death five persons travelling on top of the lorry and died on the accident spot.
A case of rash and negligent driving was slapped against Arumugam driver, who is absconding. Police are on the lookout for the driver and owner of the lorry.
