BANGALORE: The Debating Society of R V College of Engineering will host the 5th edition of The R V Debating Tournament, scheduled from September 17-21.This year’s edition of the tournament will see participation from over 350 debaters and adjudicators from across the continent and beyond, competing to get their hands on the much coveted trophy, making it the largest tournament of its kind to be held in Asia.The R V Debating Tournament follows the Asian Parliamentary Debating Format where the participants get to debate a wide range of issues pertaining to politics, economics, law, sports, moral philosophy and many more relevant topics. The format comprises of teams assuming the roles of government and opposition in a debate.The debate is envisioned along the lines of debates taking place in the Parliament. This format deploys analysis and reasoning based on principles and logic rather than merely oratory skills. Parliamentary debating has been pioneered by some of the most elite institutions from around the world. Many international tournaments are held, the most prestigious amongst them being the Worlds' University Debate Championship, the Oxford University Union Debate, Cambridge University Union Debate and the United All Asians Debate Championship.
