Are you looking for a quite bite, but a different cuisine to suit your palate? Head to Naivedya at CP Ramaswamy Road, and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed. The seven-year-old restaurant offers authentic North Indian delicacies at affordable rates. Started by VK Subramanian, the restaurant is known for its stuffed parathas and phulkas. The extensive menu covers all sorts of Delhi-based dishes — parathas, aloo subjis, chaat, sweets and savouries — prepared with different spices and appetisers, and a whole host of home-made condiments of chutneys, sauces and pickles to go with the food. The dessert spread of sweets, lassi, badam milk, savouries and juices adds to the ever-ending list of food items on offer.Having been born and raised in Chennai, I was excited to have a dig at a North Indian food, without it making a hole in my pocket. I opted to go for the North Indian which had about five food items in small bowls. The meal comprised two phulkas, two vegetarian curries, steaming hot basmathi rice, curd rice, acchar, papad, salad and butter milk, all for just `90. Though I was full, I went ahead to have a sip of the eatery’s famous Thandai (a concoction of milk, dry fruits, nuts crushed with rose water) costing `30. It was refreshing. The eatery also serves an assortment of chaat items such as samosas, kachori, aloo tikki and cutlets, for `30-50 each. Naivedya is located at CP Ramaswamy Road, Alwarpet. It is opened from 9am to 10pm. For details, call 42111877.
