It was on the basis of the information provided by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) that the Crime Branch took Halim, Shamnad and Anas into custody.
The NIA had been tracking Halim, who had been missing after being released on bail in a terror case.
According to an official in the Crime Branch, the NIA had information that Halim was hiding somewhere in Karnataka after the police began booking the persons behind the attack on the businessmen in Kannur. Later, when Halim came to the state to execute the quotation undertaken by Anas, the NIA kept track of his activities. Then, on their tip-off, the Crime Branch booked the accused from a lodge in Perumbavoor. Three of the arrested persons are involved in cases being handled by the NIA in the state.
