Anna should call off his fast: Agnivesh
Agnivesh said that any appearance of threats to Parliament is not becoming of a Gandhian.

New Delhi: Social activist Swami Agnivesh, who is on board Team Anna, on Thursday said it was time Anna Hazare called off his fast, making it clear that any appearance of threats to Parliament is not becoming of a Gandhian.

"This is some sort of...seen as a threat to Parliament 'you do it by tomorrow or day after'. This is not not becoming of a Gandhian fast or a moment," Agnivesh told a news channel.

He said the movement against corruption has been total, peaceful and non-violent and got solidarity from all across the country.

"So this was the right moment to call it off. But even if it is being called off tomorrow, I would still welcome it. But if it is prolonged and somebody insists on passing the bill, we should respect Parliamentary procedures and the

Constitution," he said.

Agnivesh said he would have been very happy if Hazare had called off the fast this afternoon itself immediately after the "historic" appeal made from Parliament.

"I don't know who advised him and why. This could have been made a win-win situation and great festivity could have followed, a great rejoicing, some sort of a victory for the nation," he said.

Agnivesh said he was not not happy with the decision which was taken not not call off the fast. They could have continued with the agitation but the fast was now now "irrelevant".

He said the Prime Minister's offer to Hazare from Parliament was a beautiful speech and that should have been respected. "That would have been seen as a victory of our democracy."
