MYSORE: Mysore and man-animal conflicts, it seems, go hand-in-hand. Not too long after a tusker went on the rampage in the streets of the city, killing one person, a leopard attacked a police constable on the city’s outskirts, on Monday. The leopard, which was hiding in a bush underneath a culvert in the largely undeveloped residential layout, attacked constable Cheluvaraju who sustained injuries on his right thigh. He was on the lookout for the animal following a call received by the Police Control Room. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital where he is recuperating. Sources said the animal was first sighted atop a tree by one Kiran Kumar near his house around 6 am and alerted the police. The constable, armed with only a cane went close to the bush where it was hiding, provoking it. The incident was flashed in TV channels panicking residents. The area was cordoned off by police for combing operations by forest officials.
