New Delhi: With the Government expected to come out with its action taken report on the Sachar Committee's findings, HRD Minister Arjun Singh on Saturday turned proactive and constituted a panel to prepare a plan of action for its recommendations to improve education among Muslims.
The 13-member high level committee headed by Minister of State for HRD MAA Fatmi will examine various recommendations concerning the education sector, formulate views on them and prepare a plan of action, an official announcement said.
"The Minister, while deliberating on various recommendations of the Sachar Committee with the Ministry officials on December one had called for immediate action and has now set the deadline of January 31 for the committee for submission of its report," it said.
Other members of the committee include Sudeep Banerjee, Adviser, Champak Chatterjee, Secretary, Secondary Education, R P Agarwal, Secretary, Higher Education, B B Bhattacharya, Vice Chancellor of JNU, Syed E Hasnain, Vice Chancellor of Hyderabad University and Zoya Hassan, Centre for Political Studies, JNU.
Zafar Naqvi, Chairman, National Monitoring Committee for Minorities Education, Saiyed Hamid, Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard, Mool Chand Sharma, Vice Chairman of UGC, Krishna Kumar, Director of NCERT, Ashok Ganguly, Chairman of CBSE and Sunil Kumar, Joint Secretary, Higher Education are also its members.
Minority Affairs Minister A R Antulay had earlier said that the ATR should be ready in three to four months. He also sought public opinion on the Sachar Committee's findings that could be incorporated in the ATR.
